Health

Everyone deserves access to comprehensive and affordable healthcare. Right now, our health care system isn’t working. We need to lower the cost of prescription drugs, hold big corporations accountable for price-gouging, ensure everyone can access primary care, and never make families choose between getting the care they need or paying their bills. Every day I am fighting to protect and improve our most vital programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.

Soon after I got to Congress, I introduced the Affordable Pricing for Taxpayer-Funded Prescription Drugs Act. This bill would lower prescription drug prices by preventing pharmaceutical companies from price-gouging Americans on drugs that are developed with taxpayer money.

We need to address rural inequities in healthcare. COVID-19 has devastated the financial stability of rural practices, disrupted small economies, and only exacerbated the healthcare workforce shortage. We know that rural and senior populations often encounter barriers to healthcare that limit their ability to obtain the care they need, and I’m focused on fighting for representation and funding for our rural communities. That’s why I’ve joined the bipartisan Rural Health Caucus, a coalition of members from both sides of the aisle dedicated to enhancing rural health care.

Addressing the mental health crisis is also a top priority for me, which is why I have joined the bipartisan Mental Health Caucus and strongly support legislation to address gaps in mental health care. Oregon is among the states most affected by the mental health crisis. This crisis requires partnerships at all levels of government to support increased access to mental and physical healthcare.
